Coney Island Descriptive Writing

A godly aurora uplifts the wooden box, covered in chipping shades of bumblegum pink and gentle blue, from it’s present state on top of my dresser, as it forever holds the jewels of my past. In search of nostalgia, the contents of this unusual box are shrewn across the sheets of the queen-size bed in which I lay; one earring, one bracelet, one partially broken chain, yet they somehow belong there, despite the distinct differences between these memory-deriving ornaments. Within this miscellanous container, lies a special necklace with a dolphin charm, that always conjures up memories of Coney Island before it’s Great Renovation. It takes me back 5 or 6 years to the day I was twirling through this amusement park; rides blurrily passing by my eyes, …show more content…
In snapshot taken by my grandparents to remember this fun-filled day, I was happily standing by a replica shark 3 feet taller than me, that resembled Jaws, as well as every fear I had at my young age. On the closet door next to my dresser, is a cluster of old photographs from previous years of my best friend Jenna and I; my favorite photo is of us hugging, with makeup completed, and stretching smiles after the realization we were now a part of a bigger family, that shared the same passion of dance. Jenna gave me these photos as a Christmas gift, so we could think of all the good times we shared. I gave her a single bracelet in return for her being a great friend, because medal doesn’t easily break, and I hoped our friendship wouldn’t either. It’s funny too, because Jenna and I knew Guinevere, who we met in fourth grade, after our teacher convinced us to make small talk with her. I’m truly thankful our teacher gave us the push, to open up of the canals of conversation with the new girl, because she became my best friend from 4th grade to 6th grade, and when it was time for her to move away I felt somewhat broken, like a glass plate that slips through the fingers of it’s beholder, and hits the floor with a

My heart raced for the rest of the school day, wondering if she had even heard me or understood what I said. Apparently, she heard me loud and clear.…

I walked through the dust and dirt to the familiar nondescript building I had come to know and love: Merek South in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Trumpet case in hand, I pushed open the teal double doors and was met with a wall of sound. I felt the corners of my mouth rise and give birth to an excited grin as I walked past the percussion equipment and other trumpet players to the only open seat, which stood out in sharp contrast against the sea of blue polo shirts and navy blue pants--the required uniform of the camp. I had attended Blue Lake before, but now I was about to embark on their international exchange program, which would bring me to France, Germany, and Holland for five weeks during the Summer. “Are you Patrick from Maryland,” asked a girl in the middle of the section who I later learned was Julia.…

He lets out a deep moan that smells of whisky from behind his unkempt pepper-salt beard and lifts his spyglass to a baggy eye. Seabirds call in the distance, swooping over one another in play. The air smells of salt and diesel, and is rife with moisture which forms a heavy fog.…

Kayaking in Lake Tahoe With just me and my thoughts, I launched my heavy orange kayak from Sand Harbors’ fine powder like sand beach and hopped in. My jet black oars churned through the waters of Lake Tahoe with smooth grace. The roasting sun was alone in the sky with no clouds keeping her company. The freezing cold waters were a bright blue jewel.…

The sun rays left me squinting and I walked back to a shop near the shore for some shade underneath a palm tree. ’ Two Gulls’ was painted on a wooden board nailed above the door and the wind chimes rang in the distance to warn the shop owners of each visitors entry. On display in the window were rows of miniature seashell necklaces, hand painted ornaments, and assorted taffy. My eyes drifted off to the shore to find a grey dolphin jump out of the water followed by a group of others. Each one had a sparkle covering its exterior that soon vanished underneath the blue abyss.…

On the first day of school, I walked in in a pink shirt with horizontal sparkly grey stripes, put my school-bag in the cubby, and found a seat. A few moments later, the girl that would become my best friend walked in. I remember asking her to sit next to me because she had really cool bows in her hair, and we had the same shirt. We sat next to each other all day, and by the end of the day, I didn’t want to go home, but I had to. When I met my grandma in the cafeteria, she asked “How was your first day of school?”, and I said, in a very disappointed tone, “Well, I still don’t know how to read, so I guess I’ll have to go back tomorrow.”…

I loath cold icy days and motion sickness, unfortunately my trip to San Francisco consisted of horrible weather with the addition of rough waters and questionably sound ships. As much as I loath bad weather I love traveling and exploring new cities, San Francisco was worth braving 55°F weather and 15 mph wind in July. I’ve never been phobic of confined spaces or water but there is something to be said about an old boat whining into port that set off alarms in my brain. White paint cracking and peeling off revealing rust and old metal didn’t do much to comfort my uneasiness. The smell of exhaust turned my stomach while icy wind bit at my cheeks and nose.…
