Cone Health System is a health system Central North Carolina operating across multiple counties and serving those communities through six hospitals, three ambulatory centers, three outpatient surgery centers, four urgent care centers, 100 plus physician practices and two retirement communities. Having worked with the system for 19 years I have seen the system utilize multiple strategic methods to gain a competitive advantage in the region.
Acquisition is the one the first strategies that the company has utilized to gain a competitive advantage. Over the past 25 years the system has grown from a singular hospital to a health system acquiring or merging with other hospitals in the region. The system now covers six different adjacent counties in North Carolina creating a huge health care foot print. Creating a dedicated Cardiovascular Center, the system has put together a specialized team do provide innovative treatment of Cardiac health. The service line has specialized treatment options and care plans and differentiated itself by being the only place in the state you can receive this care. This specialization has led the team to receive multiple national awards as well as maintaining the highest of rankings in the state. This differentiation is seen in Oncology care as well. Having three dedicated Cancer Centers across the region the hospital can deliver specialized care not offered by other competitors.
Cone Health has strives to be the leader delivering Exceptional Care to the community. Through their strategies they have been able to differentiate from competitors and create a strong network, gaining a competitive advantage in a difficult
