Totalitarianism is when a political figure has no limit to their authority and controls every aspect of a person’s life, whether public or private, to conform them into their idea of a perfect race or society. Some ways that they achieve this control is by controlling the information that they receive. For example, they would control what their people watch, read, and even see on the streets. Only specific actors, writers, and newscasters would be allowed to keep their job for assurance that they would not go against them. An example of this would be how Hitler only allowed one newspaper to be published because it glorified the Nazis and discriminated against the Jews. Also, they took out any other political figures so no one could speak against them, and so they could brainwash the people without anyone else getting in their head saying this is wrong. In older autocracies people were allowed to be somewhat independent as long as they didn 't get into politics. But in a present totalitarian government citizens rights are taken away and so they become extremely dependent on their governments decisions. Totalitarian leaders also tend to focus on the military aspects because they want other countries to fear them. They will spend millions on weapons for their soldiers. In many articles it was said that Hitler would ration food and give large portions to his army. This left his people with rotted meat and spoiled vegetables. This is a great representation of how important military power is to these leaders. Stalin got control over his country by putting enemies and political figures in work camps to show people if you go against him you will pay the price ("Totalitarianism").
