In this assignment, our topic area concerns concussions that occur from partaking in sports and recreational activities. Concussions are very frequent amongst athletes, however they are avoidable. The Concussion in Sport Group defines a concussion as “a complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain, induced by biomechanical forces” and resulting “in the rapid onset of short-lived impairment of neurological function that resolves spontaneously” (Purcell, 2014). Concussions in sports are generally obtained from a hit to the head caused by a hit that results in the shaking of the brain.
