Concussions are dangerous. Recently, some light has been shed on one of the newest yet most pressing issues of the most recent years. Concussions, a potentially fatal outcome from high impact collisions in aggressive sports. At a professional level, competitors are at an all time high in their athletic ability. Although there are much worse and life threatening injuries in sports, concussions are a common injury that can happen multiple times. With these types of forces and pressures on the head athletes become prone to a number of impairments directly effecting how well the brain is able to function. Concussions have made headlines in the news and have caused a lot of new research for psychological and physiological studies. Such injuries cannot go unaddressed, having a track record of changing the way the brain functions, impairing mental processes, and causing life altering diseases. Concussions are a traumatic brain injury that alters the way your brain functions. Effects are usually temporary but can include headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance and coordination. “A traumatic brain injury is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth”, (). By this, concussions can be concluded as a life altering, medical emergency that should not be taken lightly. Permanent damage to the brain and the skulls structure are predominant and not uncommon.
