Concord High School Research Paper

The bells are ringing and lights are up on houses. Trees light up the inside of people's homes and the halls are decked. This only means that Christmas is here. And at Concord High School in Indiana, there is a Christmas Spectacular. The band plays old time favorite Christmas songs, like “ Walking in a Winter Wonderland”, and “ Here Comes Santa Claus”, at the Spectacular. Then to finish off this event the school puts on a Nativity scene. Now, a Concard student and his father have waged war against this holy birth reenactment. This Nativity is inappropriate. The school should not be promoting one religion. This school is doing something that is unethical. Performing this skit has angered many people because by putting on this skit, the school is promoting one religion; Christianity. There is no problem with Christianity, but advocating one religion is improper. Well, to make sure that the Christmas Spectacular is fair to other religions, the school could cancel the performance of the Nativity. The superintendent of the district has announced that he disagrees, and pledges his loyalty to keeping the Christmas tradition alive. Even though, the superintendent made his promise, the school should not be throwing the Nativity scene into the Spectacular. They should continue with the rest of the spectacular, and not perform the skit. Religion and school should not mix. The Nativity could be held in a local church on another day and then the people who want to the performance can go to the church for the holy birth. This is one resolve to this issue.
