The election of 2000 was a significant event in our nation’s history for many reasons. It caused our nation to reevaluate the political process. It also helped to shape the two party systems, as it is today. In this election the popular vote winner, Al Gore, didn’t seize the office of president. In large part this was because the potential votes that would have gone to him were split by an independent candidate. In the end the vote was ultimately decided by the Electoral
Office for George Bush. The year of the hanging chads will always be remembered in our country and has ultimately benefited our country if for no other reason, because we are better prepared and have restructured the electoral system. The weaknesses of the United
