On April 19, 2016 I attend a Concert Band and Chorus presented by Palm Beach State college music department. The concert chorus was conducted by Michael MacMullen and the concert band was conducted by David Gibble. The chorus sung about 6 songs from different period of the music period, like “camp town races” and “Jubilate Deo”. Meanwhile, the band opens my ears to some great classical hits from different composers. For example, the Overture to the Barber of Seville and other pieces were played by the band. After, I attended this concert I learn a lot about how I really enjoy listening to live music and classical music.
To begin with, the concert had two parts and one intermission. The first part I get to hear the beautiful voices of my

Rumbelow. It starts out very soft and it took a while before the others join them. It was composed in 2005 and it’s a great piece to listen to. I wish I would have discovered this pieces early. I think it has ABA form, dynamics are a piano and mezzo piano, and the tempo is adagio. I really enjoy how relaxed it make me feel.

This was a really experience for me because it gets to really hear what I was reading about in class. It’s so different how the music could speak to you when I get to listen to it live. This was my first musical concert and really enjoy how the conductors give a speech on each piece they were about to play. I really enjoy how they explain what they don’t want us to do while listening to the music. I also discover that I hear those music everywhere in my life, but I never knew their names. I am so happy I got to enjoy this beautiful moment with my fellow

So I have to listen really close to find out what kind of tempo or what kind of style it was. So I have to recover most of my experiences from memory. . Next, time I would like to early a little bit early, so I could ask question about the band and how they place everyone in the stage and stuff like that. Last Tuesday, I got to listen to a 20th century composer and some of the older periods and it was wonderful to experience what I been watching in class. If I had time I wish, I had went to watch an opera because it so excite to watch the actors and actress emotions as u watch them. Some of the pieces, bring happy thoughts and some sad. Also, it great to watch the conductors do their stuff, from waving the stick around and telling the players when to play and when to stop. I wonder if it hurt when they shake their head so fast like that. I saw how the other people enjoy all the pieces even if so were a little short then others. I am in love with classical musical now. I never thought I could fall in love with opera because it’s so hard to understand when they are sing so fast but if you really listen with an open heart u would understand a very little thing that’s coming out their

I loved the last piece in the third movement because it was played very well and it is an iconic piece. I had different emotions for the individual pieces were I felt at ease, delighted, and anxious with a dynamic feeling when the pieces go fast paced. This time I remembered the fast parts since I expected than the other first concert. The most memorable was Moonlight, presto movement. For the chamber groups they projected a playful vibe between each other enjoying when it alternates to one another.…

The concert that I attended was the Redlands Community Orchestra at Redlands High School Clock Auditorium. The orchestra consisted of three pieces which were Fanfare to the Common Man by Aaron Copland, Les Preludes by Franz Liszt, and Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. These pieces are capturing pieces of art and history that surpass time and yet are still know in this modern era. The composers were well known artist that created a kind of movement in music history and became well known for their incredible pieces and symphony’s.…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

With this concert, I was not too sure what expect seeing a vocalist, piano player and a clarinetist, but this has turned out to be my favorite concert thus far. I enjoyed how different it was from the other concerts with the music they played was more enjoyable, modern and upbeat. A positive aspect I took from this performance, was inviting and friendly the performers were. It is not everyday where they invite you to sit on stage while they do their performance because they want you to feel like you are a part of it. I really did find much negativity to this performance, besides the fact it was most sung in a different language and hard to follow, but helped me learn more of different types of music.…

There is a chamber choir of 25 singers and one piano accompaniment. In the concert they totally perform nineteen songs. The first song is called “Winter Wonderland”. The music is not relatively slow, when I listening to this song I felt like I am walking in the street very relaxing while it is snowing outside. And I really like the second song called “That’s Christmas to me”, this song sounds very beautiful.…

I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it or not. As soon as the first song played, titled “Miss Fine” by Oliver Nelson I knew I was in for a good treat! As the concert progressed I began to associate a lot of things going on with the information that I had learned about in class, for example, the call and response and improvisation. One main object I did learn about in class and was very obvious for me at the concert was the mutes…

Although, I still do not feel as though it was good enough for my particular taste. In other words, I would not attend a concert in the future if they were playing these same 2 symphonies. But, I still have hope that one day I will find something I will fall in love with. For my particular style, I think I would enjoy a piece that kept me on my toes, with more intensity. I long to attend an Opera, with actual vocalists.…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

This was helpful to me because it helped familiarize me with pieces and works I didn’t have prior knowledge on. The first piece the band performed was called Strike Up the Band, composed by George Gershwin. It had a fast tempo, and in some parts this made it sound like a march. The dynamics of this piece used contrast to draw my attention to certain instrument sections or melodies.…

Soon the chorus comes in seeming as though they are muttering the words. They continue to sing the dynamics changing after every phrase is sung. The variety of the changing dynamics continues throughout this first piece, becoming louder and quieter. The tempo and rhythm of the piece was very unified in this piece before any of the soloist began to sing their part. Throughout the performance of the soloists in this piece, the rhythm, tempo, harmony and volume changed drastically multiple times whenever the “idea” ended.…
