Concert Review: John Schott Actual Band

Decent Essays
QFor my concert review, I decided to see John Schott Actual Trio in Cambridge Thursday night. I didn't know what to expect when I came to the Outpost 186 location. It was actually a small group and I didn't expect to see anytime new. I didn't know who the band was nor did I know what I was getting myself into. All I know is that that are based in California.

So when the band started playing, I was shock to see that there were only three men playing. One playing a Jazz like guitar, one playing the drums, and the other man playing a cello. I was actually expecting to hear a piano in this band but that didn't happen either. I also didn't hear any kind of regular Jazz music, the kind we've been listening in class. Instead, I was going to listen

Then the guitar started, before finally the cello started and the whole band was in full swing. I would say the songs that were played were good. The band had a good steady rhythm as they went along. As the night went on, I was really enjoying the songs that they were playing. However, there were a few disappointing moments, as the venue wasn't as big as I was expecting it to be.

It didn't really had that Jazz spark onto it due to the fact that it only had three instruments as well as three men instead of having a row of people. The songs had lines that I felt were repeated over and over again. This was done to the point where they weren't that fun to enjoy anymore. It also doesn't help that it was based from California instead of places like Chicago or New York. The band's name really lives up to the expectations! However, in the future, I really hope they add more players in the band.

Other than that, the concert was great! I would give the band about 3/5 stars. While some of the songs are enjoyable and I would have to say memorable, there were times that I wish were better. The band could add a few more instruments instead of having three people playing with three instruments. Other than that I really enjoyed the concert. Hopefully in the future, there will be other Jazz events in the

The group that I will be reviewing in this paper is the student combo that I enjoyed most of all, the group that performed first and was directed by Dr. Routenberg. The group consisted of Andrew Fiorini on the trumpet, Noah Johnson on the trombone, Meghan Walls playing the piano, Andrew Moser on the electric bass, and Collin St. Mary on the drums. Regarding the music…

Personal Narrative It took us about 3 hours to get to Shakopee, it was only 60 degrees, but with the thousands of people lined up, waiting to get in, it felt like 90. We stood in that line for two hours. For awhile, we talked, we met a variety of people, we laughed, we were excited. But once we got closer to the front of the line we all got quiet, this is it, we were in, we were all going to see our idols.…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

What a treat; I really enjoyed the event. I was skeptical about going because I did not read the book or have any background knowledge about the author, but in hindsight that did not matter. I was able to listen to relaxing jazz music, sing along with a great singer, and reminisce about my musical days. The incorporation of the black experience throughout the event was a fresh breath of air.…

In the other bands, there were only men. This band was also different from the other jazz concert I attended because they had guitars in this band. The two songs this jazz band played were, “Alter Ego” by James Williams and “Kozo’s Waltz” by Lee Morgan. I liked how during the first song, while someone had a solo, some of the other instruments would lightly play in the background. For example, while one of the men on the guitar had his solo, the saxophones stopped playing but the piano, other guitar, bass, and drums played quietly.…

Unforgettable with Stephanie Aaron and the Bradley Jazz Ensemble was a very unique experience. I do not attend many concerts, but the ones that I have gone to were nothing like this one. The concert was full of energy and the lighting was dynamic. I mostly went to traditional concerts, but this jazz concert was much more energetic. When musicians would finish a solo the crowd would applaud and there was a lot of movement among the ensemble.…

    Rocky Horror Show: Review

Rocky Horror Show Review Rocky Horror Show most definitely lived up to the sense of style it should have had. There was much sexual humor present throughout the show especially from the actors that sat in the audience. They kept up the sexual humor so the actors on stage could go somewhere with their scene and create a plot. There was much audience interaction because of the prop bags (that was a great way to help the audience be involved), and with the whole play starting with Magenta in the audience and ending with the dancers doing the Time Warp in the aisles.…

In conclusion, I thought the overall show was amazing and beautiful even though it was meant to be sad. My experience was rewarding because I got to hear a new form of music but I got to learn about a piece of Greek mythology that I didn’t know about. I would recommend this to anyone even though it appealed more to people who appreciate the history of the Greeks and classical music. It’s a nice change of music from the type that is created…

It was very exciting to see these choirs sing with such passion. I also really liked listening to instruments live. I would rather listen to a pipe organ being played live than on a CD too. In my opinion the pipe organ sounds a lot better when it is played live too. This concert allowed me to hear new instruments live, which was a tremendously amazing experience.…
