Concert Report 1 On October 26, I went to the two act opera, Il Matrimonio Segreto (The secret marriage), by Giovanni Bertati. The opera was at East Carolina University in the School of Opera Theater. The casts’ members were Marshall Williams (Geronimo), Elisetta (Rebekah Shamberger), Hannah Riddle (Carolina), Kaitlyn Davis (Fidalma), Steven Vinolas (The Count Robinson), Graham Leonard (Paolino), Gina Marie Folk (Virginia), Kelly Hart (Florida), Johnathon Spell (Marylando), and Joseph Morris (Georgio). The orchestra was composed of J. Christoper Buddo (conductor), Andrea Lockard (violin), Ryan Tolentino (violin), Rebecca Kim (viola), Emma Johnson (cello), Aidan McManis (bass), and Eric Stellrecht. In Act One, Paolino is arranging a marriage contract for Elisetta and the English Count Robinson because he thinks once they are married; Geronimo will accept Paolino’s marriage to Carolina. Geronimo likes the idea of the Count marrying Elisetta because he will no longer have financial issues. Then, Fidalma says she loves Paolino. When the Count arrives, he is upset to find that he is not marrying Carolina so he asks if he can marry her for less money. Carolina doesn’t tell the Count she’s secretly marriage, but she tries to convince him she’s not marriage material, but the Count still …show more content…
It begins with Geronimo (bass-baritone) basically tells the Count that he has to honor his contact and marry Elisetta, but the Count declines. Then, Geronimo goes into a calmer tone because the Count (baritone) decides that he wants to marry Carolina and wants less money. Their duet is very upbeat and when Geronimo is mad, the music or orchestra had a very fast beat tempo, but when Geronimo calms down the orchestra had a very slow beat tempo. Geronimo’s tone also changes through out this duet, when Geronimo is mad, his tone is very loud and overpowering, but when he cools down, his tone is very

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

On Friday, July 10th, the local instrumental jazz group Yuma Jazz Company played at Lutes Casino for a couple of hours. The instrumentation was fairly standard for a jazz group, with trumpet, saxophone, guitar, double bass, and drums (I believe those were electric). The guitar and bass, along with the drums, served as a sort of basso continuo, generally backing the horns, but occasionally taking up the melody for themselves, resulting in a texture that was thinly polyphonic. Also noticeable was the “fabulous light up tip jar,” a colorful accompaniment to their music. The concert ran from 7 to 9 PM, so I went in not only with the intention of listening to the group but also with a good meal in mind.…

Very few famous performers nowadays can integrate showmanship with their music. In the 70’s a musical group by the name of Parliament took the music world by storm with their out of this world appearance and their own rendition of Funk music. Parliament was one of the key pieces in the development of funk music and modern music as well. They created what we know as P-Funk today that was a key element of the foundation of Hip-Hop. For my concert report I analyzed Parliament’s 1976…

Holiday Concert Evaluation After a long summer vacation and a few months that seemed to go by fast, but felt like a lifetime, Concert Band finally had its first formal winter concert. List three positive musical aspects about the concert: I have to admit, since playing in Concert Band for two years now, this winter concert felt different than the rest. (In a total good way.) Maybe it's because I’m an 8th grader this year, and I know the rest of the 8th graders in this class so that way we’re able to participate in all the inside jokes we have as a band.…

On the evening of February 21, 2018, I attended a Jamey Aebersold live jazz concert featuring Howard Levy and Chris Siebol at the music building at UIC. Since, I had never been to a jazz concert prior to this one, I did not know what to expect, but since it was my first time, I was excited. In my opinion, the evening’s program was nicely presented. The musicians started by introducing themselves, Howard Levy, an American multi-instrumentalist who switched off with playing the harmonica and the piano and Chris Siebold who played the guitar and sang for a few songs. Due to that fact that they played all the songs together the texture of their songs were polyphonic.…

When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone.…
