When I was about 12 years old i was in the middle school choir. We had our first concert in December, it was a christmas themed concert i was really excited because i had a solo in one of our songs. It made me so happy to have a solo in one of our concerts because it was a very big honor if you had a solo in our songs if the teacher picked you to do the solo. It was concert day we all wore christmas hats and i was right in the front of the choir.I was front and center for my solo. My solo was in our last song and it was one of the opera solos we had and it was the longest one out of the whole song. I was so excited to do the solo because I was the only one in the choir that could hit the higher notes. I was feeling a little nervous but we

Walking on to the Lucas Oil turf as a Carmel Marching Greyhound for awards at Grand National finals after an exhilarating performance of “What a Tangled Web We Weave” was a feeling of pure accomplishment. As a sophomore, I had done this once before, but this time was different. The whole band knew we were in the running for the national title. Avon and Broken Arrow were our biggest competitors. Earlier in the season we won ISSMA state, so coming into nationals we knew we had a pretty good chance of being exceptionally good.…

Every day, I try to listen to a new piece of music. Whether it be a string group, unaccompanied choir, or even a percussion consort, I believe that by doing this, so much can be learned from just listening. About the mid-month of July, I came across this piece of music. I thought it was extremely fun and quirky at the same time! I had continued to listen to it, read some background information on the piece, and do a small amount of study on the work.…

We improvised songs about Elvis, although we did not know who he was, and the audience applauded with amusement. That was the first time I realized how much I loved to perform. From then on, I would perform anywhere and everywhere. At Christmas, I would put on skits and sing carols for my family.…

The event that I attended was the fall concert by “The Dalton State Singers” that was held on the main campus of Dalton State College in the Goodroe Auditorium in Gignilliat Memorial Hall. It was a concert in which singers performed songs and the music director played the piano. Since the concert was held in the auditorium the sound was evenly distributed for everyone to enjoy. I sat in a crowded auditorium with nothing but my thoughts before I tried out for the Contra Costa County Honor Band. After about two hours I was led into the audition room drenched in sweat with my oboe in my trembling hand. I managed a pretty good audition, but after replaying the audition over and over in my head I doubted whether I would get in. A week later, my band director congratulated me on making principal oboe and handed me Maslanka's Symphony 7, with about 4 parts marked solo in bold letters.…

Choir has been a very opening experience for me. When I was little I was extremely shy and would be scared to really to period because I felt like they were always judging every single word that came out of my mouth. I didn't like to participate in any school activities because I was such an introvert, but throughout elementary and middle school the only thing I participated in and actually enjoyed was choir. The very few friends that I had were in choir because that is where I spent most of my time. When I got to high school I didn't have any classes with my friends.…

At the concert, I was a perspective listener. The perspective listener is a combination of all of the listener types. A perspective listener enjoys the sound of the music but is also critically aware of how it makes them feel and why and it also makes associations with the music whether it being from a feeling or a memory. Going to the concert I was listening with great concentration, trying to hear every aspect of the piece.…

The live concert I chose to examine was Wicked. My family and I went and saw it on October 15th at Century II at the 2:00 p.m. showing. Inside the venue, there’s around over 30 rows of red seats on the main floor, along with a balcony with perhaps a handful of rows (I didn’t get a chance to see how many). The walls are a beige color and narrow from the back to the front in a “V” formation to draw focus onto the stage. The stage had an industrial look on each side with a large map of the land of Oz.…
