I enjoyed and could relate to the Zirbel article that discussed concept changed. This is the first time I have experienced this when reading an article for this class. One of the first …show more content…
I am very passionate about being a teacher. In my Why Teach paper, I discuss how I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in first grade because of my first grade teacher (Sasala, 2016a). When talking about my first grade teacher I stated, “she made a difference in me. She is the reason I’m pursuing a career in early childhood education” (Sasala, 2016a). My first grade teacher is a very good role model as a teacher and this semester I went back and shadowed her. This teacher, Katie Ondrejko, has not only taught me so much, but also reassured me that I want to be a teacher. In an interview with Katie, she talks about how she chose to be a teacher because of benefits for the children (Ondrejko, 2016). Talking to her about this made it perfectly clear to me that I chose the right profession because I also want to be a teacher to help children and make a difference. I want to be a kind and compassionate teacher that my students could always turn to. While the concept of the kind of teacher I want to be has not changed, I definitely assimilated new information and how to do this. Thought my field experience at Longfellow Elementary, I have realized many things that I will not do as a teacher. The teacher in my placement is constantly yelling at her students, in one of my field placement journals I wrote “today we walked in the classroom and the sub was already yelling at the kids” (Sasala, 2016b). She is also very unorganized. She will leave papers all over the room but then ask me to try to organize everything for her. In another journal I stated “I walked in and immediately started helping the kids with their work so she would not try to make me organize her papers” (Sasala, 2016c). I believe that being unorganized makes her job a lot harder. Being unorganized causes her to get frustrated with the students more easily and I think this is why she is always yelling at them. This made me realize that I need to be very organized once I become a teacher. I have always wanted to be a kind teacher and through field experiences, I believe that being very organized will help me achieve
