Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or even significant sources of stress — such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors. It means “bouncing back” from difficult experiences. (American Psychological Association, 2017).
Rogerson and Ermes, 2008 propose resilience is the ability to persevere and thrive in the face of exposure to adverse situations.

It helps us consider how we might adapt our service to individual users needs and develop solutions to problems. Social skills play an important role in a Social Care Workers career. If you are well prepared you can improve your self-confidence and communication skills enabling you to feel stronger and more comfortable. You can do this by role playing a challenging situation so you will be equipped to deal with uncomfortable or challenging situations. Positive self-affirmations enhance positive thinking and self-respect. This will not only affect your psyche positively, but also, through repetition it will raise your awareness of it. Peer coaching is another tool which can help build resilience. It involves creating a collaborative and reciprocal relationship with a colleague in order to develop reflective practice, self-awareness and problem-solving skills, and reflect on performance through feedback. Another good way to combat stress and build resilience is mindfulness. Lots of us think about the past and focus too much on the future and we often don’t focus what’s going on in the present moment. Mindfulness can help Social Care Workers manage stress and anxiety, as well as enhance emotional literacy and self-awareness, aid critical reflection and facilitate active listening. It’s important to make time to spend with friends and loved one who will support and encourage you. Taking too work on is not good for your mental. You must be able to say no if you feel the work is overpowering you. If not you might suffer from burnout which affects many people in the Social Care
