This experiment’s aim was to determine if the apples in North Dining Hall (NDH) are genetically modified. Their prediction stated that the organic apple would not contain GMOs, but the apples from NDH would contain GMOs. First, they extracted DNA from the food samples by weighing the samples and then grinding them into a slurry. Next, this group used PCR to amplify the GMO sequences and sample DNA. Lastly, they added dye to the samples, ran electrophoresis with a 3% gel, and imaged the resulting gel using the GelDoc machine. In this image, the plant primer band appeared in the non GMO control group, the GMO (+) DNA, the organic whole apple, and the pre-sliced apple. In addition, there was no GMO primer band in the non GMO control group or GMO (+) DNA (also, band did not electrophorese in organic apple), but there was a GMO band in the pre-sliced apple. Thus, their hypothesis was supported in that the NDH pre-sliced apples contain GMOs. Overall, this presentation was well done. In regard to their presentation, there was an appropriate amount of words on the slides, and the multitude of pictures was
