Many concerned citizens feel that with the availability of the guns on campuses means that there will be more of a temptation for the ill minded to cause mass shootings. In the general public, there was been an increase of 2% between the years of 1972-2010, and an increase of 9% in rape, aggravated assault, robbery, and larceny. Many also argue that the public’s safety should only be held in the hands of professionally qualified police officers and military personal, not citizens with little to no actual training besides a basic course. Lots of citizens are concerned because how easy it is to get your concealed handgun licenses and feel like there should be a more detailed physiological test to see if individuals are mentally healthy enough to carry a weapon. Another belief that many have is that criminals are more likely to arm themselves if they suspect victims to also be armed which can make situation escalate more than is already.
