Argument Against Concealed Carry

Concealed carry or CCW is a fundamental right in the United States of America guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Private citizens have the right to lawfully arm themselves and protect themselves with firearms. While many people believe that mass shootings can be prevented by making it harder to obtain the weapons that carry out horrible crimes, the truth of the matter is that making firearms more accessible to the people would limit the severity of mass shootings. If you take away the right for a person to defend themselves, then you are allowing criminals a wide open opportunity to strike, because there is no way for the victims to defend themselves. We see this time and time again throughout nature. The strong prey on the weak. For this reason it is recommended that those that want to carry a concealed weapon should have the option to do so, to enable them to make the correct decision in the heat of a volatile situation. Some feel threatened by the presence of these guns in the hands of any body but the police. Many people believe that concealed weapon permit holders will commit crimes. This is not true. “In Florida and Texas permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at one-sixth the rate that police officers are convicted” (Kellan 17). This piece of information shows that the people that take the action of getting a concealed firearm licence are less likely to break a law than police officers. If people can put their trust in police officers, they should be able to trust one another. In the state of Texas, concealed carry permit holders are 5 times less likely than the average citizen to commit a violent crime and 14 times less likely to commit a non violent crime.
