Going into higher education is not a trivial task, I have a long and arduous journey ahead of me. My success thus far has been due, almost entirely, to keeping school and my full-time student status as my number one priority. Most, if not all, of the social activities I host or participate in revolve around the Computer Science community at MiraCosta. Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

Knowing what other students have accomplished motivates me to seek accomplishments of my own and let’s me know that pretty much anything is possible on campus. While working for the Educational Opportunity Fund program, I experienced one of the most heart-wrenching moments of my life. It was a regular Thursday afternoon, I was sitting in the office with my co-Resident Assistant when I received a random phone call from my mother. When I picked up the phone, she was crying hysterically, I froze and asked her repeatedly, “What’s going on?!” with sorrow, she said, “Liam died.” I screamed over and over again, “No, no, mom please don’t tell me that, please don’t tell me that!”…
