In the field of computer software engineering there is a strong likelihood a college graduate with a degree in software engineering will find a job in this field since almost all companies and areas are now using computer systems requiring software.
In 2016, the US Bureau of Labor predicts there will be 186,000 new positons for engineers from 2014-2024. They state the jobs in this field are growing by 17% in those 10 years, which is faster than the average for other jobs. Today there are about 1.1 million engineers working, that will go to about 1.3 million by 2024. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015)
The Occupational Employment Statistics in May 2015 shows California employees 82,370 software engineers, while Texas employees 35,990,

The range for an entry level salary was $51,272 - $111,805. Over your career, the engineer can expect to increase their salary from $61,173 - $128,375 at the middle of your career, up to $77,302 - $155,433 toward the end of your career. ( Pay Scale-Human Capital, 2016) The Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015) stated the median wage in May of 2014 was $95,510 for all computer software engineers working in the field with the top 10% of the engineers making $154,800. Cal Poly has more courses on software construction, accelerated computer science and design, systems programming and analysis of algorithms. Cal Poly also has courses on Engineering economics and technical writing for engineers. They also offer over thirty other courses in a wide range of other areas of design for art, architecture, gaming, web development and 3D computing. San Jose State has courses on information security, database management, and global and social issues in Engineering courses. (CSU The California State University, 2015) Cal Poly requires completion of 188 units including the general education classes and san Jose State requires 120 units including the general education. Because Cal Poly is on the quarter system there are more courses, although it looks like they may be similar to San Jose States just broken up into part 1 and part 2s.
