required areas. The Computer Control Numeric department (CNC) had an ergonomic issue of employees constantly bending over and placing parts into the cart which was a safety issue. After the assessment of the area, the team came up with the idea of placing an air controlled lift jack underneath the cart which will raise the cart to a safe and comfortable level for the employee to perform their job without bending over. This implementation was successful by reducing the number from 30 points to below 10 points which is green on the safety scale.

The Tugger drivers are scheduled a thirty minute route to pick up a part requested cart and deliver requested parts. The purpose for this layout is to minimize the overstocking the inventory in the department, control the material flow, and saving the floor space by not placing the store rack. As Tyson Burnett explains, that Tugger route system is like a bus system where every Tugger is scheduled on time and if you miss the bus you have to wait for the next one. This was one of the lean improvements achieved. In the past, this department was based on taxi system where operators call the Tugger drivers when they need parts. When parts were delivered, it was worth three hours of work time where it needed racks, floor space and double handling for operators from rack area to work station area. The tour was very interesting and I will always take Racor as a good example regarding a lean company, which is always focusing in their improvements while putting safety as their first priority. Safety is essential for any process to be successful and to be able to take opportunities in all of the different areas that a company will like to apply lean practices. Therefore, Racor is a company that has been successful on applying lean and encouraging their employees to be part of its projects and this has helped the company as a whole to continue on renewing their plant, bringing new equipment and training their employees which are the key factors to make them become a lean
