As nurses, we always want what is best for our patient, but we must understand that our safety is extremely important as well. Upon entering a patient’s room, awareness of the surroundings is imperative, as is having a plan if danger arises. Nurses tend to want to be problem solvers and would rather not rely on their co-workers because typically they are always busy, but it’s important to understand that when an unsafe situation transpires the nurse needs to think about the safety of the patient secondary to their own safety. Removal from the dangerous setting and seeking additional assistance is always more important than believing a situation can be handled by one nurse alone. This was one thing our group agreed is easy to forget as a nurse. Especially as young nurses, we want to feel competent and not reliant on others, but through this lesson and simulation have learned we do need to have a greater awareness of our environments and ask for help if necessary.

By completing this assignment as a group and working as a team, we were able to see different opinions and thoughts of how people may react to certain events. Each member of our group had a unique perspective of what may occur, how a patient may react, and what may set someone
