Last semester, I was a student at Colorado State University. I did not take English 121; however, I did take a class like it called Composition 130. Composition 130 was a great class that allowed me to transition easily from high school writing to college writing. I felt discouraged coming into the class at the beginning, but my writing improved tremendously after being in the class. The class was beneficial to me in several ways. I learned several writing techniques that helped improve my writing. I learned how to identify rhetorical contexts (audiences and purposes), and I explored various strategies (summarizing, writing from personal experience, analyzing, and evaluating texts.) The research project was an assignment I did not enjoy. I felt like the assignment was a little rushed, and that the class was not given enough time to meet with other group members. Not having enough time to do an assignment is one of my biggest pet peeves. I think we should have had class, instead of group conferences. The group conference was a one hour conference with the group and the professor. During this time, the group showed the professor their research project. After she looked at it, she gave the group feedback on what they could do to improve the project. The group conferences were helpful, but I feel like it would have been better to have class so group members could work. Personally, I found it hard to contact members outside of class and find a time to meet that works for everyone. I would have rather spent time in class working on the project together than trying to work outside of class. I’ve never liked group projects because they can be stressful when some students do not pull their own weight. It’s not fair for those who are doing most of the
