We hypothesized that pill bugs would display a positive hydrotaxis and a negative chemotaxis, but our last experiment supports a reaction to chemotaxis. Since we placed them in a tray with all chemical-filled chambers, we weren’t able to tell if they drift towards diluted solutions because they contained more water. The products of the Chi Square Test told us whether the results of our experiments were significant or not. Our results in Part A and B were significant because the calculations proved the null hypothesis wrong and supported our hypothesis; the bugs displayed a positive hydrotaxis and a negative chemotaxis in these two situations. On the other hand, Part C can be invalidated because the bugs did respond when placed between 4 concentrated-chemical solutions.…

Crickets do not really need color because they use their vision to detect movement and sometimes even photoreception, which is used to find the time of the day (Turpin). Vision helps insects and animals jump, crawl and even fly. An insect’s color spectrum is limited because they have only two types of color pigment receptors (moment of science). This causes insects and some animals to not being able to see the warmer colors. Cones are a part of the eye that lets you see color.…

We made sure to separate them by sex and by sampling method in order to observe the difference in body lengths. Once we placed them on the slides we then placed the slide on the projection scope. Using a string and a ruler we measured the body length (not including the antennae) of the C.Volutator’s shadow. In order to find the actual length we divided it by the actual length; we then recorded the datum and repeated the procedure (Biology Department, Laboratory 2,…

The counting of individuals is interpreted as a discrete quantitative data collection method (Raath, 2011: 2). The number of species were separately identified and counted respectively. For each arrival the time was recorded and the duration of feeding observed. Data analysis was done by processing the raw data to produce graphs for comparison.…
