Components Of Communication Essay

Communication is the exchange of messages between two or more people to generate meaning. The goal of communication is to generate common meanings through a message in hopes that it will be understood by the person whom you are trying to communicate with. To successfully communicate, you need to know how communication actually works, and the components used. The components are people, messages, channels, feedback, codes, encoding and decoding, and noise. All of these components are important and necessary to generate a message that is effective in relaying your intended meaning to another person successfully.

A message is both verbal and nonverbal. Verbal being the content of your idea, and nonverbal being things such as body language. Body language is the most effective part of this component at communicating your emotions. Things such as facial movements, tone of voice, gestures, and physical contact can greatly affect the meaning of your message and allow the receiver to pick up on your emotions just by the way you deliver the message. During communication from person to person the code being used is language. We use words, sentences, and phrases to create images, thoughts, and ideas in the minds of others by turning them into symbols. There are verbal and nonverbal codes in all languages. Symbols and how they are arranged makeup verbal codes, while symbols that are not words are considered non-verbal. Examples of non-verbal codes include sounds that are not words, body language, space and time, and clothing. The meaning of a message can be changed by the way you arrange these different
