Write the definition of each fitness components and how to improve each of them. Discuss how each of those fitness components can help you to improve your health or performance in a particular activity/sport.

The health related fitness components consist of cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition and flexibility.

CARDIOVASCULAR FITNESS: Cardiovascular endurance is also known as aerobic endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness/endurance and many other names. This health-related fitness component is all about oxygen. It is the ability of your heart and lungs and other organs to supply the oxygen to your body while doing a sustained physical activity. There are some activities that help you improve this component. Any activity that involves and challenges your muscles, heart and lungs to work harder will improve your cardiovascular activity. These would be like, walking jogging, swimming, cycling. However, there are three main ways, slow or moderate intensity distance training, high intensity continuous exercise, or high intensity interval training. (University Sports Medicine).
Having a resistant, heart and lungs, thus having a strong cardiovascular endurance may help prevent heart diseases such as stroke, and other diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. (Polar).
All athletes train cardiovascular endurance so they can resist a longer period of time performing that sport. For example, in tennis, cardiovascular endurance determines if the tennis player could go on for the whole match and have enough stamina to have a quality match, when they last a couple

A good body composition would have more muscle than fat. To improve your body composition, you just have to become generally more fit, loosing fat and gaining muscle will make your body composition better. In order to do this you must follow a work out plan, doesn’t matter what you concentrate on, even light or moderate sport will help loose fat, but you must also follow a rich in nutrient diet to lose fat. A strength-building programme will help build muscle and a cardiovascular activity will help you loosing fat. (Jennifer Andrews).
The benefits of a suitable body composition are many. Starting from the obvious, you improve your appearance, as well, it will give you more energy as you will have to carry around less fat, therefore you want get tired as easily. Finally a better body composition can help you prevent diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis and high blood pressure according to the University of Utah College of Health.     In a study by Arbab-Zadeh et al. (2004), they had twelve sedentary healthy seniors and twelve Master athletes that previously had pulmonary artery catheterization; they measured the participants pulomary capillary wedge pressures and left ventricular end-diastolic volumes through echocardiography at baseline, during decreased cardiac filling, and after a saline infusion. Based on these measurements, they found that Masters athletes had greater stroke volumes than the sedentary individuals at any given pressure, and that the sedentary healthy seniors had decreased left ventricular compliance. This essentially means that in sedentary individuals, when the left ventricle fills with blood, the pressure is higher at a particular blood volume compared to normal individuals. These characteristics are determining factors for health related issues such as hypertension and heart related diseases. As a result, this will affect the individual’s activity level, and unfortunately, they cannot participate in high intensity activities – whether resistance or aerobic activities – because it requires the heart to work harder, and when the left ventricle fills with blood, the pressure will be higher at even lower blood volumes compared to when they are at rest. For example, if an individual’s aerobic capacity declines dramatically over the course of aging, this means that their respiratory rate declines, causing blood pressure and heart rate to decrease, and poor flow of nutrients in the blood to the bones and muscles; this results in decreased bone density and decreased muscle mass, and therefore decreases strength and the ability for the individual to carry heavy loads or to participate in activities that require intense effort.
