Roman Resshetov Case Analysis

Superior Essays
We, the students of Mr. Roman Reshetov, would like to issue a formal complaint, as his teaching skills are inadequate to teach an Honors Chemistry class.

To begin with, Mr. Reshetov’s time management is lacking. Extended periods of time are being spent teaching small portions of the curriculum while other portions are not even mentioned. Students are forced to teach themselves vast amounts of material that sometimes have not ever been mentioned in class. Also, in many cases, students are studying the wrong things because Mr. Reshetov does not provide adequate information as to what is expected to be known. Many standards have not even been mentioned. As a result, students are not achieving their best potential, evident in the many failing

We have a right to receive fair instruction that meets the needs of the students. Some of us feel the need to drop down to a lower level class in order to pass and feel successful. This is not because we are not apt enough to understand the information, but because we are struggling to teach ourselves. Johns Creek has plenty of core values that make it the school it is. We understand students should be challenged, but the question is at what extent? It is understandable that chemistry can be difficult and some parts of the learning process do require time to be put in at home but many of us students also take other rigorous classes. There is simply not enough time at home- not to mention extra-curricular activities- to relearn everything we were supposed to have been taught, or merely informed that we should know, in class. This not only creates increased pressure on students, who are trying their absolute best, but it can also lead to depression and heightened …show more content…
It is what happened next that really made us feel uneasy. Mr. Reshetov said something along the lines of “I have gotten a bad vibe from you” and “I feel like you are challenging my authority”. The student immediately said that was not the case at all. At this point we think he should have left the student alone and continued teaching. Instead of moving on, he further persisted in saying something along the lines of “from now on I’m going to look at you as a student who will always question me”. He went on for a bit on how he would look at the student differently and then said “unless you want to forget about this”. This seemed like a personal threat to the student with grading and the general relationship with Reshetov. We found this extremely inappropriate, especially due to the fact that the student had already explained to his authority that her “disrespect” was not intentional and apologized for the way she came across. We understand that students can be disrespectful, and that should never be tolerated, but this was an extreme reaction to a student whose intent was not to be uncivil or ill-mannered. We are very scared that something that we might say could be misinterpreted and cause him to look at us in a negative way. We would be upset if any teacher looked at us in a negative way, but the way he seemed to threaten that student was very

The one size fits it all clothing saying is also being applied to our children’s education. In Freemont High School by Jonathan Kozol, students are having trouble with school instead of enjoying it like most children should be enjoying their high school. Students are having obstacles to continuing their education by complaining that there is no air conditioning in classes, not enough courses, restrooms being closed, substitute teachers, and the library being occupied. In the passage “some of the classrooms ‘do not have air conditioning,’ so that the students ‘become red-faced and unable to concentrate’ during the extreme heat of summer’’…

Examine just for a moment an average sized classroom of twenty-eight or so students; they are fidgeting, squirming, a tad rambunctious, undoubtedly bored, and most likely not retaining anything. Their grade does not matter. These could be third graders practicing their cursive. Or perhaps they are eleventh graders paraphrasing Shakespearean literature. The problem still stands, they are wasting their time.…

Do you ever wonder why we switch classes for school for other classes? Well in my opinion this is useless and even causes a problem for students like all of us. We waste more time switching and talking to our friends then learning. We do not create a bond with our teachers, and teachers don't have the freedom when they switch. Have you ever talked in the hallway while trying to switch well this is more of a time waster then a time user.…

Although there are many problems in this case, the main problem is lack of student learning, which needs to be the top priority of a free and appropriate public education, aside from safety, which is always at the forefront. As the principal, I need to reflect on my last 2 years of making an attempt to develop positive and trusting relationships, and my own growth as an educational leader. The problem here is that Principal Hulbert is still at a Level 1 leadership role; where people follow you simply because of your title. This was demonstrated when Bill Osborne, the employee spokesperson, told the principal, “You are the boss and you can force us to revise the lesson plans. Just tell us what you want in the lesson plans, we’ll copy it, and we can go on to more important issues,” (Kowalski, 2012, p.5).…

Dr. Cahn describes how great teachers not only motivate their students, teach the material at hand, and organize a classroom, but also provide a vision of excellence. I have reviewed the letter of reprimand placed in my file by Dr. Lowery, Westover High School Principle, it is totally without merit and I feel compelled to correct the record as to the errors in the reprimand. Although mine was a peripheral role, at no time did I confront another staff member as noted in the September 22, 2016 memorandum. Instead, Mrs. Dallas came into my classroom in a very boisterous and irate manner, asking “why her daughter’s name was not annotated on a Cross-Country roster”. I admitted to addressing Mrs. Dallas in a “very stern” and “matter of fact way” without the use of profanity.…

He did this about two more times, but later he would recognize what he did and then apologize and show them that he really cared. I also believe he was an astounding teacher for the fact that he dedicated his free time to teach (Menéndez, 1998). He was getting payed less than half the money he was getting payed in his old job and he invested twice the time because he loved it (Menéndez, 1998). He invested so much time teaching that he risked his health just to make sure his students learned (Menéndez, 1998). His main goal was to get those students to pass the AP test and encourage them to get a better future by going to college.…
