High school athletics have impacted every aspect of my life, including my overall perception of myself. Personally, my entire high school career has been dedicated to cheerleading. Participating in this sport all four years of high school has provided me with opportunities to meet new people and improved leadership skills. I have learned the value of team building, dedication, responsibility, and determination. Reflecting on my years as a member of the Silver Starlites I realize I would not be where I am today if it were not for the influence of my parents, teammates, Starlite parents and my four magnificent coaches, who surprisingly managed to put up with my antics for ten years. It is because of their encouragement and support that I have truly learned what it means to be disciplined, audacious, dedicated, a role model and most importantly a champion. Our competitions came around two and occasionally three times a month, this meant that if I were not home doing my school work I was sure to be in the gym practicing my butt off while my mom repeatedly nagged about how bad my free hand was or that my showmanship and eye contact was not enough, not to mention her eye rolls every time I dropped. I understood the importance of collaboration, cooperation, and trust of my teammates. Every win and loss is realized as a team; we shared both blame and victory. Being the slowest swimmer on the team I was motivated to practice harder; as I improved my team benefited. Competitive Ice Skaters like Clint Johnson and Steve Bradbury are taking their experience on the ice to the design table. They have developed a new way to make skates using a process called rapid prototyping.
