The book “Ender’s Game” starts with Ender having a normal life on earth, but then he gets his monitor, a device which allows government officials to see and hear what he does, removed. After that he was approached by Colonel Graff and went out to the battle school in order to train with others for a war against aliens which had attacked earth decades ago. On page 277 in the book, Mazer tells Ender “When you face the buggers they will think of things I can’t imagine, and compassion for human beings is impossible for them.” This implies compassion is a special element of humans that buggers do not have. It is found out by Ender at the end of the book that the buggers were not planning to attack the humans again, and if the humans would have showed the same compassion to the buggers, all of those lives could have been saved. If only the humans had tried to communicate with the buggers instead of going straight to war. This is a message everyone can relate to, because even in the simplest of settings you can still easily choose to be nice to someone. Ender’s Game is telling the reader that compassion is important and gives examples throughout the book to show why. Of all the small and subtle messages throughout the book, this one is the most prominent because the entire plot of training a commander would have been needless if the officials had tried to make peace with the buggers, or even had just not sent out troops to attack their
