In the “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, we follow the Joads as they migrate from Oklahoma to California with family and friends in three stages. I believe that Steinbeck used unsophisticated protagonists and language for the sake of the general public. John Steinbeck wanted this book to be relatable to the public and for people to understand and relate to and feel compassion for the people who felt the hardships of the dust bowl the most. Steinbeck uses a lot of repetition making it easy to relate to the simple characters that Steinbeck has created for us.…

Empathy through Kinship In Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, the clerk’s charity reveals the power of understanding in a community. While rude and shameful at first, sarcastically declaring, “then go git ‘em in town” (375), the store clerk soon recognizes that his futile comments add to the struggles of the already dilemma-ridden families. Ma’s questioning of the shop’s ownership leads the clerk to contemplate his own situation, finally displaying the uncanny similarities between the customers whom he mocks and himself. The clerk’s own self-preservation and worry, “I can’t do it…I’d get in trouble” (376), accounts for his condescending attitude that he develops under the strict regulation of the store manager. This understanding that they both…

No matter how hard the author may try, the authors own feelings about the situation can be seen by more carefully examining the text. When writing a story authors can add events that may be untrue in order to express their feelings. Arthur Miller incorporated his personal life in The Crucible to idealize that even flawed people deserve forgiveness and to be understood.…

C.S. Lewis is an extraordinary writer; his book series The Chronicles of Narnia is also a series of movies that are delightful for all ages. It could be said when comparing the two versions of The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe that the book is better because it lets the reader live the story instead of just watching it. The book is so much more detailed than the movie; for example, when the protagonist, Lucy, first enters Narnia, when Edmund goes to the witch's castle, and at the end of the book and the movie there are major differences between the two of them. Those are just a few examples of how the book is more detailed than the book.…

Narnia English Creative The reigns slice through my withered fingertips like sawing razor blades as I guide the Witch’s sleigh through the darkness of Narnia to return to her castle. In her realm of power she reclines in the sleigh and sways her wand as a reminder to abide by her commandments or be cast into stone. Narnia is silent; just the sound of the bears heaving the Witch’s sleigh through the snow, the creatures lock themselves away in the safety of their homes. A procedure I too used to follow, that is, before I betrayed the ones most dear to me and became the Witch’s evil dwarf.…
