Comparsion Of The Differences Between Football And Baseball

Improved Essays
After being a fan of both football and baseball for years, I have begun to understand how different these games really are. Football is much more violent than baseball. In football, the object is to tackle the opponent. The harder the hit, the better the tackle. As a result, many football players are injured each year. In baseball, however, violence is not the object of the game. If a player gets hurt, it is usually because of an accident, such as two players running into each other or a batter being hit by a pitch. The language used to describe each game is also different. The language of football is like the language of war: linemen “blitz,” quarterbacks “throw bombs,” tacklers “crush” receivers, and games end in “sudden-death” overtime.

Football is a tough sport. It seems as if every time a game is played there is at least one or two hard hits, sometimes even more. We, as spectators, instinctively admire these hits, but rarely think about the long term effects that the players might face from such hits. This is largely due to the fact that spectators are blinded by coaches, officials, and players from the serious side effects and repercussions. Only recently has the public population found that there are more harsh and serious long term side effects from football than we have been led to believe.…

American football, though, is responsible for about fifty-four percent of those injuries (Head-Case). Personally, I do not know why a person would want to participate in a sport with such high risks of injury. There are precautions that you can take to try to avoid a head injury like wearing a helmet or tackling in the right manor, but that obviously is not enough. There are more cases than you think of young football players experiencing traumatic brain injuries, TBI’s, and more and more retired National Football League players are feeling the results of the multiple collisions in their careers.…
