In fact, muskrats are very courageous animals, because they have to hunt deadly snakes for their food. Muskrats are rodents that are native to North America, but they can be found in Europe, Asia, and South America. These very sociable animals are mostly active during the night, but they can be active during the day too. Rikki-tikki-tavi, is a very brave and courageous muskrat. Kipling insists that “Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor, but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki-tikki did the real fighting.” (Kipling 143). Darzee, Chuchundra, and Rikki-tikki are three of the characters in the story, Rikki-tikki being the protagonist. In addition, Nag and Nagaina are two cobras in the book that viciously fight Rikki-tikki to their deaths. (Kipling 146). All five of these characters make an appearance in the movie as well. Each one of them keeps their same character and personality in both mediums. Furthermore, Teddy and parents are Rikki-tikki’s new family (the movie). Setting is the place or the surroundings that the events take place. In the book, all the characters live in India. Teddy and parents live in a cantonment (Kipling 143). A contonoment is like an army base for soldiers and their families. India is also the setting for the movie (the movie). Both stories take place in Teddy’s parent’s house and garden. Rikki-tikki-tavi fights his battles to protect his new family out in the garden and in the family’s house too. (the movie).
