It was definitely one of a kind and very controversial. The unique part of this film was having it be symbolized as a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. I believe that Baz Luhrmann was very successful in adapting the classical story. It was successful because he was able to keep all of the major themes like love, jealousy, and violence. One of the big controversial topic is the use of the Shakespeare language. Luhrmann used the classic language while making the setting and costumes modern. The modernization was slightly unsuccessful because it detract from the original play, but I do not think it was a terrible thing. The director kept the dramatic scenes and characters which kept it theatrical. For instance, the fight scenes were exaggerated and the scene when Juliet’s mother and the Nurse was calling for Juliet. Baz Luhrmann definitely did use the advanced technology to his advantage. It helped add cinematic elements like the use of guns instead of swords. In the beginning scene, the fight between the two families were intensified and intriguing due to the camera angles. The director also added the use of the news media to take place of the narrator. I was able to see a different approach on how to grab the audience’s attention from the other director’s performance. The scene at the same time was very comical, but also held you on the edge of your seat with its high tension and wonderful transformation of a relationship between two characters on stage. This really grabbed my attention and taught me that a transformation of a relationship on stage really enriches the performance. Overall, the knowledge I gained from this activity in class really helped me establish a foundation and base for the mechanics of…

This allows the modern audience to relate more to the story and also makes it stand out from all the other countless adaptations. This brings change to tradition and is an exciting change but while Baz Luhrmann’s version creates a new point of interest, it does not stay true to the original script by Shakespeare. Conversely, Franco Zeffirelli’s version does as the setting is exactly like how it was described in Shakespeare’s script.…

He has done this by changing selected setting's, whilst also changing the costumes of the characters and modifying the interpretation of the characters from the original play. Although Baz Luhrmann's modernisation of Romeo and Juliet was successful in making a more relative and modern version of the play, scenes such as the Queen Mab scene and the character have been murdered in the process by Baz…
