“Today, 2.1 billion people – nearly 30% of the world’s population – are either obese or overweight” (Murray, Christopher J.L.). Obesity is an increasingly dangerous problem in current society causing various diseases and shame in an obese person. Causes vary from ingestion of more calories than are required to inactivity or to unhealthy eating patterns (The Columbia Encyclopedia). Thus people search to weight loss diets. Three of the most commercially recommended diets are the Weight Watchers Diet, the HMR Program, and the Biggest Loser Diet. But which one gets the most effective results overall? When contrasting the Weight Watchers Diet, the HMR Program, and the Biggest Loser Diet, the best diet to lose weight is the Weight Watchers Diet. …show more content…
“Most people will be able to customize Weight Watchers to their needs – the program tags recipes and foods in its materials for various preferences including vegetarian, gluten-free, lower carb and nearly no cook.” (health.usnews) Likewise no food is off limits but you have to stay focused on losing weight. With the HMR Program eating out is limited and customizing the diet is easier for some preferences than others (health.usnews). For example, if your dietary preference is kosher then HMR entrees and HMR chicken soup are not kosher, and if you prefer your diet to be low in salt then three shakes alone, which are provided, would take you over the low-salt goal of 1,500 mgs (health.usnews). In the Biggest Loser diet, it is up to the person to make the diet like they want it by choosing one of their books which suits your preferences. The HMR Program controls diabetes, reduces levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and other fats in the blood (health.usnews). An analysis concluded that replacing meals with healthy food can effectively lead to significant and sustainable weight loss. However, some people do need ongoing supervision in case of any risk in the body (health.usnews). “The Biggest Loser diet assures that it can help prevent or reverse diabetes; cut the risk for cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s; improve your heart health; and boost your immune system” (health.usnews). It is also effective in losing weight since it has calorie restriction and exercise which must endure (health.usnews). But, a study showed that contestants from the tv reality, lost more percent of their weight than common people so the expectations for some may be unrealistic
