The “Sweat” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” both display the plot line of being trapped in a marriage. In the story Sweat, Delia is an African American woman in living in the early 20th century. She’s washes clothes for white people for a living. And she and her husband Skyes have been married for 15 years. However it is Delia who is the one making money, essentially providing for the household. Sykes exerts his male dominance and his dissatisfaction with Delia by abusing her physically and mentally. Delia, in a way feels the chains of marriage wrapped around her. Delia feels still loves and put up with her husband in hopes that he will change. Two stories that share the same point of view which helps guide the readers is Saboteur and Interpreter of Maladies. The point of view in Saboteur is third person limited. You somewhat get an idea of some of the character’s personalities and perspectives, though not all. In the story we follow Mr. Chiu eating lunch with his newly wed before a minor incident with the cops lands being arrested and imprisoned for three days. Because the story is in third person, it makes the read very much like a story. The narrator uses he/she/they to refer to certain characters and has gives the reader a vision of the environment that the character are in and describes situations in detail. The point of view we get from the story is from Mr. Chin. We get into detail about his feelings and view from the time he is arrested and interrogated. The character knows everything about Mr. Chin and a little bit of Fenjin. However the narrator doesn’t not look into the perspective of the police leaving the reader to envision that. In the Interpreter of Maladies where the story takes place years later in a different part of Asia. And similar to Saboteur we get an objective viewpoint. Meaning the narrator does not give bias to the characters. The point of view in the Interpreter of Maladies is third person limited because you see more of viewpoint in the eyes of Mr. Kapasi then you see with the other character.
