Comparison Of Soccer And Basketball

Improved Essays
In today’s society there are many sports to choose and participate from. The variety of sports sometimes leads to people to not have a favorite sport. In my case I like soccer and basketball. Since I was a little boy I participated in my schools practices for both sports. Although I was not on the team officially, the coach knew me so he let me be there and practice with the other kids like, it was as if I was part of the team. When the coach needed an extra player or a substitute, he would always look for me to fill that need. Soccer and basketball were my favorites because I excelled and enjoyed the style of competition. As I got older I had to decide which sport I really wanted to play. I chose basketball because you had to run the court …show more content…
You are always going to be in shape playing basketball, you run the whole game, and you jump to get the rebounds and constantly have to keep the opponent away by pushing or blocking them with your body. When you are not in a game you practice at home or school and work on trying to be the best player or being better than you were before. You work out at the gym concentrating on your legs and arms. Working your leg muscles is a necessity for basketball players to increase strength and stamina because of the constant running and jumping required. Arm strength is equally important, all exercises support for when you have to pass, shoot, or dribble the ball. The strength and conditioning work at the gym helps to improve your quickness and strength, two physical abilities needed to excel in …show more content…
You have all sorts of fun. One way is how the guys make fun of each other if they make a mistake or if your shot is blocked. Playing alone is not fun at all, but for me it’s how I like to practice shooting and dribbling techniques. Playing alone does have its drawbacks. You get tired quicker when you play alone than when you play with others. The reason is you are constantly going after the ball, especially when you are doing shooting drills. Basketball is my favorite sport because it also distracts me from everything and if I play alone I put music in my headphones and play at my own pace and in my own style. I enjoy the times when I play with my friends. Playing with strangers is also fun. When you play with people that you don’t know, you begin playing at a slow pace to see what their style of play is. In a matter of time you began playing like you normally do, and they begin to ask “who are you?”, “where did you came from?”, “how can you jump like that?” I am very quick playing and very good shooter too. I move very well without the ball especially cutting down to receive the ball near the basketball hoop. I have been known to make some incredible shots and insane layups. Players have asked me “how in the world did you make that shot?” Sometimes I don’t even know how I make it but I act cool like I’m used to making those shots all the time. I cannot think of another sport where you can have fun playing either by

He wrote 13 rules of his game and labeled it basketball while he prepared teaching a gym class at the YMCA in Springfield, Mass in 1891. However, understanding that free throw was not called in the original 13 rules, but it was almost the same as rule number 7, that stated “if either side makes consecutive fouls it shall count a goal for the opponents.” Today, we know it as free-throw was put into place for more than 115 years ago.…

The struggle between sports will always exist amongst the fans. Fans will debate that their sport is better than the next. The best ways to distinguish the sports are by action, the live play, and the amount of skills needed to succeed in the sport. The most common comparison is football and soccer, however the real similarities to soccer are shown in basketball. I am here to say that soccer and basketball are very similar, in ways of multiple skills that are used, including tackling, intercepting, shooting, and blocking, the set up of the rules (out of bounds, overtime, illegal ball handling), the federations behind the sports (MLS and NBA), the team sport aspect as well as the individual play, and the overall speed of play.…
