While the judge heard his side of the story, the evidence held against strongly plied him guilty. Ebert suggests that, “[Andy Dufresne] accepts the good and the bad as all part of some larger pattern than only he can fully see.” (The Shawshank Redemption Movie review, 1994). One could even say that Andy Dufresne works with the system in order to achieve his goals, playing with both the prisoners and guards to achieve his freedom. This is recognizable in the scenes where Dufresne utilizes his skills as a banker to assist the guards with their taxes. Consequently, Dufresne is securing his safety by becoming not only a prisoner, but now an asset.…

Villefort misleads Dantes in order to keep him sane until he settles into a place where no one will listen to his shouts of agony at being treated unjustly. People, naturally, want to hear what they want to hear, and it is much easier for them to digest the expected than the unexpected. For example, "... Monsieur Morrel came to see Villefort and insist that Dantes be set free, and each time Villefort calmed him with promises and hope" (Dumas 39). After reading a little farther, the reader would have deduced that Villefort fabricates some excuses that keep Dantes imprisoned for fourteen years.…

Dante, though doesn’t really respond at first and states that Ugolino deserves what he has received. Dante also says “you the scandal of the peoples of that fair land where si is heard, because you and your neighbors are so slow to punish you” (Canto XXXIII; 79). Dante sates this just before he changes the topic with Ugolino about finding Virgil. By Dante doing this it shows that he has become less inclined to feel sympathy to the people in hell, because Dante does not talk about how he feels bad for Ugolino, or that he feels that Ugolino was wrong. This change in Dante’s personality is just the start in Dante’s overall change of becoming a different person through his…

Unethical Business Issues in Shawshank Redemption” I selected the movie “Shawshank Redemption” to do my independent project on because the main character Andy Dufresne goes through multiple character changes that have an immense impact on the movie and it is a great movie. Andy Dufresne is an innocent man that was arrested for his wife’s murder, and he had not committed any crimes until he got in jail which plays in to the movie’s ironic feel. Andy even states in the film, “I had to come to prison to be a criminal.”…

In both Crime and Punishment and Chronicle, it is obvious to draw parallels between the novel’s protagonist, Raskolnikov, and the movie’s protagonist, Andrew: both males are isolated by society, for which they are a contributing factor; both harbor a deep resentment against those around them; and both of them commit a violent act that ultimately marks their doom. The beginning exposition of both the novel and the movie spends a significant amount of time emphasizing the protagonists’ loneliness. The very first page of the novel describes Raskolnikov as someone who is “completely absorbed in himself, and isolated from his fellows;” in the same way, the movie begins in Andrew’s dingy room and shows him friendless as he gets bullied for his camera (Dostoevsky 1). As the storyline progresses, however, it is evident that these characters are not completely helpless victims;…
