One of them being one of the most influential fashion designers known for her unique, out of the box style, one being a key figure in socially critical photography, it is not surprising that Rei Kawakubo and Cindy Sherman decided to collaborate for the 1993/1994 campaign for Comme Des Garcons. With this campaign Cindy Sherman breaked the rule of typical fashion photo shoot where she is no longer just posing to show off the garment but to also adding her own interpretation, and telling a story, a issue of women in culture. Yet these out of ordinary and even confound photographs, even seen separated from fashion photographs, are highly connected to Kawakubo’s approach of combining the values of contemporary art and business of fashion design, rethink the history of clothing design.
