Smith makes several accounts in the third person telling the reader all the good things Smith has done, for instance when he states “Smith newly recovered, Martin and Ratcliffe were by his care preserved and relieved.” This quote written by John Smith is showing bias towards himself and making it sound as

Although John Smith and William Bradford were instrumental to the founding and development of the colonies in the new world, their writings reveal differences in personality, with John Smith being arrogant and self-centered and William Bradford being focused on the greater community which ultimately makes them very different leaders. In his account he wrote, “committed the managing of all things abroad to Captain John Smith… himself always bearing the greatest task.” This illustrates the exaggeration and arrogance in his writing because he speaks about himself in third person and he tells the reader he always took…

Also since Bradford's life is very heavily based off of his Puritan religion, his writings include his religious beliefs which assist him in explaining certain situations. Smith's main goal when writing his literature was to encourage settlement in Jamestown; whereas Bradford's goal was to tell of his experiences in Early America. Another factor when reading the literature of both men is the distinctively different views of Native Americans. Smith refers so Natives as "Savages," even though those "Savages" helped the people of his colony survive through the bad leadership. In contrast, Bradford always refers to the Natives as "Indians."…

This took place in the late 1800s, but the separation of cultures and beliefs in these regions began about three centuries before. Explorer John Smith, author of The General History of Virginia, and seeker of religious freedom William Bradford, author of Of Plymouth Plantation, both wrote vastly different essays depicting their experiences while they explored and settled on land that would become America two centuries later. John Smith settled in the South while Bradford resided in the North, and in these essays, the differences in culture are demonstrated several times. Through analysis of religious influence and self-reflection in these narratives,…

Of Plymouth Plantation was written in 1630 by William Bradford. I believe that William Bradford intended this piece of work to be read by future generations, so they could learn from the suffering that the men, women, and children endured in their time of being casted away from their native land. For example, the men that were brought upon the ships were stripped away from their wives, children, and homes. Although they went through a great deal of emotional pain they also went through a great amount of physical pain while being on the ships, going through treacherous weather that took its toll on the people.…

Bradford reveals his views and beliefs through the diction in his writings about the Separatists and Native Americans as a holy follower with a superiority complex.
