Comparison Of One And A Million By Jack Dana

Throughout this project I wanted to emphasize on the theme love. I saw this as a topic that appeared many times throughout researching the components of my creative project. I watched the movie Titanic, a 1997 world-famous film based on a true story about the “Ship of Dreams” that sunk in 1912 resulting in the death of thousands. However, the movie was best known as a tragic love story between two fated lovers; Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson. From start to finish I already had the thematic connection I wanted to elaborate on, I was able to connect most of my components to the film I had chosen to watch. The album I chose was One and a Million by Aaliyah Dana which came out in 1996. This album perfectly embodies the thematic thread, …show more content…
This song perfectly exemplifies Jack and Rose's relationship, “ That's why I want to spend my life with you… I want to show you my world, don't you understand? Your love is one in a million.” Throughout the whole film we saw instances where all they would do is explain how they could not live another day without each other. The connection between Rose and Jack was “one and a millions” making his fatal departure even more traumatic for Rose, it shows that indeed their love was “one and a million” and it's going to be difficult to find once again. I was also able to connect the film was the poem, At Dauphin Island by Wilmer Mills, this poem was published in 1997. Much like the Album this poem expresses their views on love and how it affects many people, the poem expresses their emotions towards a certain individual much like the movie and the songs does. “As when inside a hurricane, you see how calm it really is. You notice light and it's delicious undertow.” This citation is a perfect example of Roses situation before meeting Jack. Rose was lost, she was in the hurricane being pushed around by the people that were supposed to be supporting her and loving her, but that was until she Jack introduced himself and he helped guide her to the eye of the storm, where

When Braden says “I talked about how hot it’d been that day, and how it’d cooled so suddenly the sweat on my shirt made me shiver” it is not just meaning how suddenly the storm had come and altered his day, but also how he thought his life was going good, he thought everything was okay, then suddenly the false paradise he was living in was ripped out from under him. Causing his whole life to change the day of that treacherous storm, the day his wife told him she hated her life with him, stuck on that measly farm. Later Braden says “the quiet was as hard to take as the storm’s noise” which shows that now that the storm is over, that his wife has left him and his daughter, that he is immeasurably unhappy the quiet that is left after the storm does not please him, but instead it bothers him. Whereas when Edith discusses her mother she pictures her mother “unzipping her high-heeled boots and shaking water from an umbrella” which shows that Nina is not being held back by “the storm” but instead she is shaking her old life off and moving on and creating a new life for herself. She is not letting her past life hold her back, she is moving on even though she has left behind a husband and daughter.…

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, something you desire is something you long or hope for. Desire is this hole that you ache to fill. In “Remnants of a Carnival”, Clarice Lispector expresses the desire she had as a child to experience carnival and finally feel like an individual, by escaping the demands of her family. Through perceivable increases in her desires to be a part of carnival and to feel like a woman, and by showing that she was in a position that warranted escape, Lispector successfully conveyed the desire she had.…

In his book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini writes about two women, Mariam and Leila in Kabul. Throughout the story, there are many symbolic representations. Some of these include the signing of a contract, the popular culture the people of Kabul enjoy, and the well known book, The Old Man and the Sea. One of the more clear symbols in the story is when Mariam signs her name on her marriage contract, as well as her own death warrant. On page 326, Hosseini writes, “After Mariam was punished with a sentence of death, she was led out to sign a document while the Taliban watched. . . .…

Unfortunately, their relationship ends in death and distraught over the sinking ship, but their love will continue to grow because of the strong feelings they had over the course of just a few days. At the end of the movie Rose still tells the story about how great of a love they had and how it still effects her life in present day. Self Indulgence People throughout their entire lives are encouraged to believe in selflessness, that selflessness is a necessary attribute we must have in order to construct ourselves and others feel better about life. Yet when one is selfish, many people around that person suffer, some much more than others. That is evident, in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath short sections filled with historical information at first appear to be greatly pointless yet when investigated further one starts to understand that it is actually useful context that provides evidence towards the underlying selfish, egotistical nature of humanity.…

Into the Dark Water by Lauren Tarshis has many quotes from a boy named Jack Thayer, who at the time was 17, and sailing on the Titanic. The exact quotes from Jack really made the story more believable and made me feel like I was really there. Furthermore, it can be confusing why the author added in the quotes, as some have profound meanings. And even though they they are nicely hidden, they help the article in unthinkable ways. Jack Thayer stated on April 14, 1912, “It was the kind of night that made one glad to be alive.”…

Thelma and Louise, a film by Carolyn Ann Khouri, trails the liberations of two working class women in the 90’s. These women plan a weekend away from the men in their lives due to the fact that Thelma’s husband is a misogynistic man who feels that a woman’s job consists only of housework and cooking. In the first scene of the movie Thelma wants to ask her husband, Darryl, for permission to go on the trip with Louise. He yells at her and she quickly changes the subject. In my opinion, this is one of the most crucial scenes in the entire film because it outlines the sexism and discrimination that these two women will face throughout the course of the movie.…

The sound track that has been chosen out of the 15 tracks from the album, Titanic: Music from the Motion Picture as the focus of study is “Hymn to the Sea”, which is also the last track on both the album as well as in the film before the credits portion. The reason this track was chosen instead of the others; such as Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On, the track on the sinking of titanic and the tracks from the escalated point in Titanic film is because that track was played during the scene where Rose closes her eyes and dies in her sleep, and what happens is that her spirit went back to RMS Titanic, joining those aboard the sunken and lastly, as she reached the main lobby, Jack came down from the stairs welcoming her arrival. That was another…
