In 1918 when World War 1 ended, in time the Bronx grew rapidly. In addition to the New York City Subway provided to the growth in New Yorkers, a majority of immigrants crowded up the Bronx. Italians, Irish, and mostly Jews settled in this neighborhood. Some famous people who settled in such a popular town was author Willa Cather, Pierre Lorillard and creator Jordan Mott. Willa Cather was an author and poet known mostly for her books O Pioneers and My Antonia. Pierre Lorillard born in Westchester County, NY and was an American tobacco salesman who made a fortune from it and lastly, Jordan Mott was an inventor for the Iron Works, (as in stoves, steam engines, chimney, etc.). Adding to that group of immigrants came the French, Germans, and Polish.
