The type of king, Macbeth and Malcolm are can be seen through their contradicting goals in the play. Clearly, Macbeth would be the tyrant type of king; he would do anything in his power to remove those who pose a threat to his status as a king. The fact that there are people who are a threat to Macbeth proves that Macbeth is not a king that the country wishes to have. An example of Macbeth’s tyranny would be the assassination of Banquo and his son. Before Macbeth assigns the murderers to kill Banquo, he says, “Know that it was he in the time past which held you so under fortune, which you thought had been our innocent self” (3.1.81-84).
