I will be discussing the 1937 work of Pablo Picasso titled “Guernica”, located in the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. This abstract oil painting has interesting black and white values, and intersecting contour lines to create interesting shapes and patterns. These shapes appear to be that of people and animals, expressing expressions of agony or anger engaged in a gruesome fight. Though this is not a realistic painting, we can clearly see that these people, hands, arms, and even animals are in a stressful…

George Washington, being a wise and an experienced president, warned the individuals of the United States of America to not use factions, as this concept would not be beneficial for the newly made independent nation. Historical figures such as Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson decided not to listen to Washington’s plead. Both men created two political parties that reflected one another’s beliefs. Hamilton stood behind the Federalist party as Jefferson did the same for the Democratic-Republican party, which is also known as the Republicans. Each party had opposing views of one another.…

These pieces have many differences as you can see with a quick glance. In The Storming of the Teocalli by Cortez and His Troops, Leutze paid lots of attention to detail accurately showing the chaos that occurred during this time. With falling bodies and drawn out weapons there is much detail in the division between the troops of Cortez and the followers of the Aztec leader. This painting brought about moral questions from those that viewed it. On the opposite side we have Benjamin West’s Penn’s Treaty with the Indians When He Founded the Province of Pennsylvania in North America.…

The two murals I chose were both painted by Diego Rivera around the same time period between 1923 and 1947 with the first, “Liberation of the Peon being painted in 1923 and the second “dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park” being painted from 1946-47. “Emiliano Zapata’s aim was to bring about agrarian reform and freedom to the poor and working class citizens. But how successful/how lasting was the influence of Zapata and/or agrarian reform on both the Mexican Revolution and present day Mexico. Both the murals I chose convey the same message but in different forms for instance “Liberation of the Peon” describes the conditions for the poor/ lower class citizens. Through both the imagery of what looks to be a bunch of men and there horse's freeing another man from a sake he's that he's tied to, and through…

The Seamstress by Anna Blunden and Kiss Me and You’ll Kill the Lasses by Lilly Martin Spencer are both images of women, produced by women who have extremely different backgrounds. The two pieces work together to show that even though these women can live similar lives, they have extremely different feeling toward their situations. With one woman more than happy tending to the family, and one doing everything in her power to leave, they show just how different life can be based on your perspective. One of the most obvious similarities between these two pieces are the subject matter.…

In 1776, the British colonial settlers established a new nation called the United States of America, which means that they overthrew the power of royal and put the government in the hands of the people. In 1789, when they wrote the Constitution for their new nation, they separated church and state, so they could limit the power of the church. The United States came to be associated in their minds with the concept of individual freedom. Americans mean the desire and the ability to control their own destiny without the influences of any organizations or the government, which became a basic value of the nation in 1776. Taxes fall under Freedom and Political Liberty, but to say that the American Revelation was just about taxes is missing out on the main points of their freedom and political liberty. For the colonies to have freedom and political liberty, the colonies should have had the rights to exercise their rights, which was not giving to them. The American Revolution was about Freedom and Political Liberty. The colonies wanted to have the same rights as the English man, but the government did not see it this way.
