Grease is a musical romantic comedy, which takes place in the 1950s, that depicts the lives of different cliques and how each of them are different, but at the same time similar. Jealousy is a prominent conflict in this story because Tracy was hated on by Amber, a dancer on The Corny Collins Show, even though Tracy was really talented, because Amber was worried Tracy would take her place as the star of the TV show. Amber's mother, Velma, also disliked Tracy and believed she did not look the part to be on The Corny Collins Show. The fact that African Americans were eventually banned from being on the popular TV show is disgusting and definitely a conflict. Also, African Americans were not taught in the same classrooms as the white kids, which is not only extremely disrespectful, but also another conflict. The most gripping, thought-provoking points in Hairspray was the major racial discrimination that was seen and done throughout the course of this movie. African Americans are no less important than other people and it is shocking that a person could think otherwise. Also, I thought it was incredible and brave how Tracy stood up for her rights against racial …show more content…

Because black maids relied on white families to earn money, rebels against employers could easily cause much trouble. It also prevented many other black maids from contributing to Skeeter’s book because they were afraid of revenge from white employers and lost their jobs. Black people were enforced to live in segmented areas and not allowed to take the same bus with white people. Also, they barely had any chance to develop learning skills and advance their career development due to racism.…

The play “A Raisin In the Sun” and the poem “Harlem” both concentrate on the attainment of the forever promised “American Dreams” (higher education, prosperity, equality, freedom to come and go as you desire and to be whoever and whatever you want). These aspirations were and still are the hopes and goals society offers to all of us, unfortunately, many African-Americans rarely achieved and experienced them. Both writings depict the unfair treatment of African-Americans during the 1960’s with each implying how, discrimination and segregation, made achieving these dreams virtually insurmountable for most of the black population. The main difference between the play and the poem are the endings. The poem ends with a reference to the total destruction…

Ralph Ellison, author of On Being the Target of Discrimination, did an excellent job describing the daily life of an African American child during the segregation era. This text has powerful lessons that he went through that shape the story into what it is today. On Being the Target of Discrimination is a narrative essay that relies on pathos to persuade its primary audience of white people in America how racism affects a kid’s childhood. The author had a very clear image of how he wanted to present the sole purpose of this text which was by presenting lessons the main character experienced. There are some things, particularly audience and word choice that overlap together in a way that make you think of the text in another dimension.…

As mentioned before, the children live in a ghetto(Harlem) where many African Americans live because they could not afford to live elsewhere and were also not allowed to due to the whites as they did not want any interaction with them so they essentially pushed them into living together. The children are not able to see the discrimination actually being faced by African Americans because there are only black people around where they live. By taking the children out and into a different area especially one where a lot of white people live, it will open their eyes and make them more aware as to what really is happening between the whites and African Americans and how the discrimination the African Americans face is more serious than what they’ve come to…
