Enough is enough said women around the world that are tired of being put down by men of power. Women said no more silence, so they spoke up. This is no which-hunt this is women having enough. 2018 was the year when women came together to tell the world their shocking stories. However, most women all shared similar stories and so it began. Movement such as “Me too” and “Times up” encourage women to speak out and tell their stories. In “Let’s hope there’s no going back” Kath Pollitt says that we can thank president Trump for such movements after he was accused by at least 10 women of sexual harassment and of Couse, the famous “Grab them by the pussy” video. 2018 was the year for women to come out of the shadow and speak up against men in power. However, how did this begin? It only took a couple of women to come forward to realize that almost everyone had a similar story to tell. The Times up movement first originated when 400 women in the movie industry decided to write an open letter about their experience in the industry. Celebrities such as Melissa McCarthy, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Anniston, Amy Schumer, and many others took part in such action. Telling the horrible experience they had lived through to get to where they are today. It did not take long before the #MeToo movement became viral and women around the world started sharing their stories. Feminism is having the right to wear whatever a woman wants to wear because they are no longer controlled by men. However, Feminism goes beyond clothing because being a feminist is supporting women equal rights It is fighting for equal pay and equal opportunity. Just like Hooks said since the begging of feminist movement these movements have been attacked referring to them as a group who hates men or even more drastically on TV evangelist, Pat Robertson, described feminism and as “ an encouragement for women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.” Despite all the ignorance and the fake ideology feminist won because on January 2018 and estimate of 500,00 women and men were part of the “Women’s March” in Los Angeles alone not to mention the hundreds of marches around the country. This is a clear example that women have the power to change it all.
Sexism, racism, classism, imperialism, and other types of oppression are all connected, hooks tell us that feminism must be seen in all of these contexts together hooks says.
