Love can be defined as a strong affection for individuals arising out of kinship or personal ties. Love is so powerful it can change natural law. Family is defined as a group of people living under the same roof and under one head. In some selections, characters go through certain journeys to find love from their family. These two selections you would think that they are not similar but in reality they actually are through love. The two selections are The Wizard of Oz by Victor Fleming and Matilda by Roald Dahl. Dorothy and Matilda, protagonists imagined in different centuries, come to recognize the value of love and family over the illusory world of imagination, a contrast emphasized by the ironic use of darkness and light. While at her house, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood rather her watch television than to read, so she uses her power to make the television stop working. One night, Matilda was reading a book from the local library when her family was watching television and Mr. Wormwood snatched the book out of Matilda's hands and said, "I'm fed up with your reading anyway. Go and find yourself something useful to do," and started to ripped pages out of the book in handfuls (Dahl novel). How could a parent do such a thing to his own child, education is the main priority for everyone? It is the essence of a prosperous life. However, after making Miss. Trunchbull leaves town and her parents and brother needing to move, Matilda asks Miss. Honey to adopt her, someone who truly cares for her. Miss. Honey tells Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood that she would "love to have Matilda," and she would also "look after her with loving care, Mr. Wormwood, and I would pay for everything," (Dahl novel). With that being said, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood decided it would be a good thing just to have to look over one child not two. Therefore, Matilda and Miss. Honey lived happily being with each other, two people who cared for each other
