Edward R Murrow was brilliantly portrayed by David Strathairn. Murrow was a news reporter who took a daring leap at exposing the corruption that surrounded McCarthyism and the unfair imprisonment of US citizens who relatives may have had relations to communism. He started with an indirect attack of stating basic facts of a case that he believed was unfairly carried out. He then progressed to directly accusing McCarthy of wrongfully imprisoning people and ruining their lives. The director, George Clooney, created a somewhat dull, but important film that illustrates the important past of corruption that existed. Strathairn also does a wonderful job of showing the stress of going against McCarthy which was unlike anything anyone else had ever done. He was messing with fire and risked his, and the studios, entire reputation because McCarthy could attempt to go after them and get them all imprisoned. Kinzer also creates a gripping and important novel that brings the wrongful actions of the United States government.
