Comparison Of Diet Coke And Mentos Causes A Chemical Reaction

Improved Essays
Although many people believe that Diet Coke and Mentos causes a chemical reaction, scientists believe it is a physical reaction. Carbon dioxide is drawn to the Mentos, and it creates many small bubbles in the soda. All of the bubbles build up and create pressure within the bottle, causing the soda to shoot out. The explanation for this process is called nucleation. This process consists of bubbles forming in any place where there is a high surface area and a very low volume, places called nucleation sites. A few nucleation sites could be scratches on glass, the ridges of your finger, or specks of dust (Eepy Bird RSS). The reaction can be increased in a few different ways. The temperature of the soda can affect the reaction. Using Diet

The first concept is carbon dioxide that is created when the beverage is put into a can in high pressure of carbon dioxide gas. When you open the can, the carbon dioxide rushes out, a sound can be heard which is the carbon bubbles. The movement of the raisins when they bob up and down are caused by tiny bubbles of carbon dioxide gas that stick to the raisins rough surface, making an attraction. The bubbles increase the raisins volume but it does not affect the mass. The…

So it's not really a chemical reaction as much as a physical release of small amounts of trapped gas. The soda, a carbonated liquid to begin with, contains lots of pressurized C02. Pop Rocks are pressurized with carbon dioxide, creating tiny pockets of bubbles inside the candy. When the soda is at a higher pressure, it can hold more carbon dioxide. When the soda is opened to the…

The ingredients in the Diet Coke and the Mentos along with the structure of the Mento allow for the eruption to happen. It happens because of carbon dioxide bubbles exploding out extremely quickly. If the reaction is fast enough, then you can end up with a great soda fountain. If a smoother Mento is used, then you wouldn’t get quite the same reaction. But since the Mento has holes around it, the Mento is the best choice for the eruption.…

Deep down I have always known that I needed to cut out sodas. I actually just recently started this habit of drinking sodas. It all began when I started working at the movies and there was nothing else for employees there to drink but soda. Of course, you could purchase a ½ liter water bottle for $4 but I was broke, so I had to stick with the free soda every day I worked. The first month I never noticed a change in my skin, but after about three months I had really bad acne.…

The length of time that a bubble is alive can depend on many different variables. In this project, what will be viewed is how the time of bubbles change because of the temperature. The colder the soda gets, there will be more fizz/bubbles because the molecules of carbon dioxide (a chemical) have less room to escape in the cold. The more carbon dioxide that is in the soda, the more fizz/bubbles that it will have. Temperature and the time of bubbles are related in multiple ways.…
