Christians versus Catholics: What’s the Difference?
Religion seems to find its way into our lives one way or another. Since we were a toddler we have been spoken to about God and what to believe, especially if you have a Latin background. Latinos usually fall under two categories: Catholics or Christians, Catholics are being the greater majority. But what’s the difference between the two? Some people think that Catholics and Christians are the same, when in reality, despite their similarities, are very contrasting. Their beliefs and church structure may be alike in some areas, but not in all. To verify my information I have used resources like research, personal experiences, and the Holy Bible.

The saints are statues and the Catholics light up candles around them. In Exodus 20: 3-6 it says --“You shall have no other gods before me. ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord Your God am a jealous God,….” – and in Psalms 115:3-8 you can see more about what the Bible says about this. Christians on the contrary, do not pray to saints. Christians pray only to God and nothing else (see Matthew …show more content…
For example, both believe in the Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) which is the only one true God; the three are one according to what the Bible says in 1 John 5:7. They believe that Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth, died on a cross for us and rose from the dead on the third day. Previously, and especially on my mission in New Jersey amidst the Hispanic community, I found myself occasionally discounting the faith that non-LDS people had, brushing it off as a pretended piety or emotionless adherence to tradition. I saw it with the sentiment that God was probably disappointed in them for not participating in authorized ordinances or that their prayers were somehow of less worth because it was a “vain” repetition. I was amazed to see mothers shedding tears of parental pride as their sons participated as alter-boys, and astonished to see rugged, world-stained men weep in humility as they knelt and repeated rosary prayers. While it is probably true that every religion has “floaters,” who worship out of habit rather than consecration, I realized that truly dedicated Catholics exist, something I hadn’t really considered before. They want to come unto Christ, they want to do all they can to be worthy of His presence and they are faithful to Him.…

When a person dies the Christian believes that their soul will go up to God and it will be judged if the person has admitted and asked for redemption of his or her sins, and God will pass judgement if they truly believe and follow him he will then let the soul go up to the heavens, while the Jewish religion feels that G-ds judgement will come upon the coming of the Messiah and there is not much discussion or clarity of heaven other than a reference of paradise. 4. When it comes to knowledge Christians feel that God gave them knowledge where the Jewish religion feels that knowledge was passed down from generation to generation. 5. When it comes to history Christians and Jewish people feel that there has been great evolution based on the cultures being exposed to other cultures, the impact of war and peace between countries, and both religions believing in God, even though both may have different main characters, different days of Sabbath and different religious doctrines, yet both strive for resurrection one day after death.…

The Lutherans and Catholics were different in multiple ways. The Lutherans (Protestants) believed that the Bible should be the direct source of information about the Christian faith. They believed that people should have a “direct relationship to God” and could freely talk and worship him all they wanted. The Catholics had a hierarchy about the way you went to talk to the Lord. You had to be of a certain ranking in the church, for example a bishop, to be able to talk to the Lord.…

The differences found were mainly aesthetic differences although some major differences did include ritual based procedures. Both Churches were quite similar despite the differences between the religions themselves. Both the Lutheran Church and Catholic Church follow the apostles creed and abide by this specific creed. Judaism is different from my religion because we do not have more than the Ten Commandments, we do not believe in the covenant of God, and also attend to a different type of church in which the ritual is called a “mass” and is celebrated every Sunday of every week. Our preacher or teacher dresses in a white gown and carries the symbol of our daily bread. We also have a different sacred book; it is called the Catholic Bible. Yet Judaism and Catholicism can be seen as siblings or religion. They both share the same beliefs on how people should act toward each other and respect other subjects as well as other living and physical…

Many of our values are even the same. There are theological truths that we share in common, but the the fundamental truth about salvation differs, which is why Christians should insist on the superiority of their truth. Christian believe that only God deserve to be worship by all. It is irony to think that the protestant movement comes right out to the Catholic church, using the same bible, believe in the same Savior, but each of them have their own belief system creating a separation that can never be repaired. The protestant uses the Bible to make a case to why it is wrong to worship or pray to Mary. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1).…
