Career Information Systems Analysis

Great Essays
In today’s world computerized career information systems are very important, as students rely in technology to learn about career development. Two of the career information systems that I had the opportunity to explore are Arizona Career Information System (AzCIS) and Iseek careers. Both systems present useful information for students who are interested in exploring furthering their education or interested in entering the workforce. AzCIS and Iseek systems are easy to read and understand and provides assessments that will help students see their interests and skills they have that will help them see what career path is appropriate for them. AzCIS and Iseek careers have different features for students to explore. AzCIS also gives students the …show more content…
One of the features that Iseek careers lacks and that AzCIS has, is the translation option to Spanish. By having this translation available, it provides students the opportunity to switch their language preference that is easier for them to comprehends. AzCIS also provides help and tutorial options, which offers a link to watch a video if the students need assistance in several of the sections. Both AzCIS and Iseek includes in their system assessments that allows students to explore their interests and skills. Iseek careers has a better explanation on the different assessments and provides a list of a brief description of the assessments, number of questions and the length of time it may take to complete each assessment. I feel is useful and attractive so students can be aware of the kind of assessment there are and the length of time it takes to complete the assessment, instead of selecting them individually and then learning more about it, as it is with AzCIS. Both systems rank the assessments into several categories, but the format that AzCIS uses is easier to complete and it includes small graphs used in today’s trending social media (thumbs up/down/Facebook). Similar assessments are included in both systems including a reality check, which allows the student to find out how much money …show more content…
Both AzCIS and Iseek provides information on resumes, interview tips, and job search. AzCIS included useful videos on interview tips. Both AzCIS and Iseek included samples of resume. Another feature that I find interesting in AzCIS is that it allows the students to save all searches and resume so the student can build on it or refer back to their searches. When it comes to planning or setting goals for students, I feel that Iseek career has an easier worksheet for student to work with. I liked the outline of the goals setting for students, it breaks it down into different sections which is easier to follow. It wasn’t clear if this worksheet is only in a PDF format. AzCIS also has a goal setting format, but I feel that it is more on-line, which it allows the student to save their information, but I am not sure how easy it is to read the format of the goal setting. I prefer more PDF format that I can print out versus only reading it

Career Clusters & Advising One of the main attributions Achieve Texas contributes to advisors and counselors is that it breaks down potential class schedules in order to help a student be success in the career path they have chosen; it also goes on to help a student realize what expectations of the career field are, what kind of impact it has on the world, if the field is growing/shrinking, and ultimately, if it is the right fit. Achieve Texas does this through breaking career fields into clusters, or bunches of related careers. By doing this, it allows students to explore more possible options, to find one that best suits their personality and strengths. An example of the career clusters is Education & Training (edutrain).…

The HIM careers that interest me the most are business analysis and director of clinical informatics. These careers involve coordinating, analyzing, implementing, and improving data, which all lead to improve patients’ care. Also, these careers have a great impact on the business side of the healthcare. One of the main reasons that I am interested in these careers is the job security, and I like the responsibilities that are associated with these careers. During POC #1, I learned through the Focus 2 Career Assessment that I am almost ready to become a nurse. In order for me to become a nurse, I need to become a more social person, either that or fake it! By taking the Focus 2 Carer Assessment, I easily learned a valuable lesson about becoming a nurse, and how I should take my personality into consideration while becoming a nurse. Because I am determined to become a nurse, I am willing to become a more social person; but if I were not willing to become more social, Focus 2 claimed that I would excel quite well in many different types of jobs.…

To elaborate further on social cognitive career theory (SCCT), Hackett, Lent and Brown (2000) discussed strategies for which SCCT counselors should navigate through their clients’ career obstacles. First, Hackett et al. (2000) stated that SCCT focuses on the interaction of individual aspects such as self-efficacy, result outcomes, and future goals, and how those interactions contribute to career development (Hackett, Lent, & Brown, 2000). To begin their evaluation, the authors analyzed environmental factors from a SCCT perspective (Hackett et al., 2000). When examining career development through a SCCT lens, there are two major factors that influence it, (i.e., objective and observed environmental factors; Hackett et al., 2000).…
