I am not going back to my country on the Christmas break but if I was going, I would watch The Lord of the Ring movie with my dad on weekend, and I would talk to him about Jesus while we are watching the moive. None of his family members or friends were Christians or interested in Christianity. …show more content…
For this reason, I would try to teach him about Jesus while we are watching the movie. One of the themes of the Lord of the Ring is a temptation. While the narrator is telling the story in a descriptive and factual way, he inserts his own opinions on Bilbo, such as calling him “Mr. Invisible Baggins” (Tolkien 227) or “poor little Bilbo” (Tolkien 153). The narrator also adds his own asides throughout the story with the first-person pronouns. For example, he says, “I suppose Hobbits need some description nowadays, since they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us,” (Tolkien 30). While the story is quite serious, especially for Bilbo, frequent asides like this one made by the narrator help to keep a light, casual tone in The Hobbit. It creates a feeling of warmth for…

The film “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” follows the life of Jesus’s Jewish contemporary, Brian, and his unwilling rise to messiahship. Some claim that “Life of Brian” ridicules faith in Jesus Christ, mocks His suffering, and offends people of Jewish faith. However, the film does not aim to insult its Christian or Jewish viewers; it is a satirical commentary on how people follow politics and organized religion. Some, such as Rev. William Solomon, argue that “Life of Brian” ridicules “faith in Jesus Christ” (Rawls). These claims are invalid; the filmmakers are respectful towards Christ’s teachings.…

A significant aspect of Jesus’ portraits has to do with the titles used to describe him and point to his humanness or divinity. The diction used in Mark is less suggestive of Jesus’ divine nature than in John. The most common title for Jesus in Mark’s gospel is “Teacher” or “Master,” plain human terms that emphasize the idea of serving others. Jesus is portrayed as the servant of God, but he is nonetheless the leader of the people on earth by virtue of his status as a prophet. Jesus being identified as “Teacher” is also important because Mark’s audience, the Gentiles, was relatively new to the faith, and Mark wanted to stress that Jesus was a model for them to serve God before serving themselves during the persecutions.…
