The sports industry is a multi-billion dollar forum, displaying and promoting only the best athletes in the world. This population of people includes every level or division of talent; from small high school teams to the national leagues. The amount of people participating gets smaller and smaller as they work their way up the chain. Therefore, the margin of the best athletes is even narrower. Two such talented athletes are LeBron James and Lionel Messi, who are the most popular and skilled athletes today. Football in Europe, known as soccer in the United States, is the most favored sport, although basketball is making its way up the rankings. James was introduced to basketball at the age of nine by his uncle. LeBron started for an Amateur Athletic Union team where he was starting to get noticed. James decided to attend an all-white private school. He won the Gatorade National Player of the year in his sophomore, junior and senior year. His senior year he was also named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball. After his senior year he declared for the NBA draft and was the first pick in the 2003 NBA draft (famouspeople.com). Messi started playing soccer at the age of five for a hometown club in Argentina. When he was eight years old, he moved to another club which was immensely talented. But, at the age of eleven he was diagnosed with a hormone deficiency which altered his playing time. It was at this time when FC Barcelona’s sporting director decided to pay for Messi’s treatment only if he attended Barcelona’s youth academy. It was there he quickly moved up the ranks to make his move into the Liga BBV where he made his debut (famouspeople.com). LeBron is the youngest player to ever score twenty-five thousand points, a former scoring champion, has multiple gold medals, two finals MVPs, two NBA championships, an eleven time all-star, four league MVP awards, and is known as one of the leagues premiere defenders (bleacherreport.com). This year alone, James is making forty-four million dollars off the court from endorsement deals, and twenty-one million dollars on the court (businessinsider.com). On the other hand Messi makes thirteen million dollars from endorsements and fifty million dollars on the field (forbes.com) Although each plays a totally different sport; they both make a living out of doing the thing that they love.
Each has one’s own way of spending the cash. LeBron’s home that he is currently living in is priced at just over twenty million dollars, which includes all the luxuries, in-ground pool, basketball court, and enough space whatever he desires (lacurbed.com). The king also has ten luxurious vehicles that have a total cost of one million-four hundred and twenty-one thousand dollars (cavsnation.com).While on the other hand, Messi’s house costs five million dollars and he owns one, two hundred thousand dollar car (sugarspot.me).
